First Visit

When you come for your appointment please remember to obtain and bring the following:

  • Referral letter from GP, family physician or other doctor
  • Have your Private Hospital Insurance information with you
  • Bring ultrasound reports (Do you have current ultrasounds or x-rays [within last 3 months])

List of items to bring to hospital

Things to Bring Into Hospital:

For Mother:

  • All current medications
  • Blood Group card
  • Copy of antenatal notes from Marcia (given to you at approx. 36- 37 wks.)
  • Medicare / Health Insurance cards
  • Comfortable clothing & shoes for daytime (keep in mind tops that you can feel comfortable to breast feed in i.e. button down)
  • Nightwear – dressing gown, slippers
  • Underwear & Maternity bras (extra underwear)
  • Maternity pads (at least one full packet)
  • Toiletries including soap, shampoo, tooth paste and tooth brush.
  • Nursing pads

For Labour:

  • Camera
  • Clothes for labour (old t-shirt, warm socks, old underwear, or can wear hospital gown if prefer)
  • Oil or Moisturiser (if you wish for massages)
  • Heat / Cold pack
  • Food such as barley sugar, jelly beans, muesli bars
  • Lip balm
  • CD player / IPod speakers (if you wish to have music whilst in labour)
  • Oil burner (if you wish to bring one in it must be an electric burner, cannot have naked flame in hospital)

For Baby:

  • 6 Bunny rugs
  • 6 night gowns / Jumpsuits
  • 6 singlets
  • 1 or 2 newborn hats
  • 1 or 2 blankets
  • Nappies for going home (1 or 2)
  • Socks / booties
  • Mittens
  • Bottle & teat for going home (if wishing to formula feed and you would like to have a sterilised bottle full of milk for the drive home)
  • Car seat installed in car ready for drive home

It is advised to have your bag packed and ready from approx. 3-4 weeks.

Please note it is advised that you leave jewellery, credit cards, large amounts of cash and other valuable at home.
